How to Start Teaching from Home with Outschool
I have loved my experience with Outschool so far. Granted I have only been working for one month and have taught three sections and have only three classes listed on my profile, but it has been so easy to get started that I thought I would share my thoughts on the why you should consider becoming an Outschool Teacher.
1. The Application Process is Quick and EASY!
I literally applied and was hired in the same day! The background check takes the most time, but assuming you have nothing on your record, you should be approved relatively quickly (some within 24 hours like I was!)
2. There are Minimal Qualifications to Teach
Outschool's Teaching requirements are that you are at least 18 years old, can speak and write in English fluently, are a full-time resident of one of the 50 United States, and are technologically savvy enough to operate a Zoom call. You do not need a degree in Education or anything like that. Outschool does request that you have expertise in one or more subject areas around which you can base your classes. However, when they say "expertise" they don't mean that this has to be something you are certified in or went to school for or even something you have done professionally. It could literally just be something you like to do! Which brings me to my next point.
3. You can Teach Whatever You Want!
Teachers create their own classes and can literally teach whatever they want to! I have seen classes on everything from investing in stocks to tying your shoes. Whatever you know how to do, you can teach it on Outschool!
4. You Can Teach on Your Own Schedule!
Create your own schedule and teach when you want to! You don't have to go by anyone else's schedule but your own. If you do have some freedom, though, Outschool provides a calendar that shows the booking density every hour of every day. If you schedule your sections based on the highest density of bookings in the week, you could get more students! But you still have the freedom and the flexibility to choose when you teach!
5. You Choose Your Own Pay!
For me this was the most unbelievable part, and definitely what sold me on the idea of applying to Teach with Outschool. I could choose how much I was paid? But seriously, on Outschool you choose how much you want to earn! When you create a class, you set the price per learner. When doing this, take into consideration that Outschool takes 30% of what you make and gives you 70%. This is done automatically, but is good to know when calculating how much you want to earn.
And there you have it! Some of the benefits of teaching with Outschool. It really has been fun and I cannot wait to teach even more! All of my students have been amazing and the platform is straight forward and easy to use.
