Cheap, Easy and Portable VIPKid Background

    Your VIPKid background is probably one of the most important aspects of your classroom. It's the first thing your students (or VIPKid Mentor) will see and gives them a first impression of you as a teacher. Not only that, but it when you like where you teach, you will enjoy the process so much more! 

    This was not the first background that I have made. In fact, this is my third background, but it has been by far my favorite and most used thus far for several reasons. The first background that I had was made of a disposable table cloth and paper. While it was colorful and good for my purposes at the time, this material tore, bent, ripped and was not mobile in the slightest. As soon as I started traveling more often, I knew I needed a different background!

1. It was cheap and easy to make. 
2. It is portable and easily set up and torn down.
3. It is easily adaptable to several reward systems that I use (and will tell you about in another post).

    If you are looking for a great starter background that you can keep on hand forever or need something mobile that you can bring on vacation or a trip you're taking, this is the background for you!    

    1. This background is cheap and easy to make!

            If I can make it, so can you! I am not creative or crafty AT ALL! This background was simple and took me only an hour and a half to put together. Needed materials include:

• 3' x 3' White felt 
• 1 " ribbon (color of your choice) 
• felt letters * 
• fabric glue or hot glue and hot glue gun 
• Command Strip Poster Hangers

*If you cannot find felt letters (I actually had a hard time.), you can buy 8" x 11" colored felt sheets and cut your letters out. 

   

 I found all of these things at Hobby Lobby. If you don't have one of  these near you, I am sure a place like Michael's or AC Moore would have them as well. 

    Once you have all of your materials, the assembly is quite simple. Take the ribbon and glue it to the edges of your 3' x 3' white felt. Then, take your felt letters, spell "VIPKid", and glue the letters down. 

    Here comes the best part! 

    

2. It's Completely Portable!     

    Using the Command Strips you can simply put one on the top two corners of the felt and hang it wherever you want without causing any damage to the wall! Not only is this super convenient in your own household, but also when traveling. This way you can teach from a hotel room, air bnb, friend or relative's house. Using this simple portable background, I have taught in many different places including Costa Rica, Dallas TX, and VA. The following pictures demonstrate how versatile this background can be!

    Another nice feature of this background is that it is virtually indestructible! The felt is fold-able and won't cause damage to the background. Anytime I go somewhere, I fold my background and stick it in my backpack. This method has proven itself time and time again. If you do not like the folds in the fabric, you can lightly iron the felt to get it looking good as new!

3. This Background is Adaptable to Different Reward Systems!

    

    Remember the old Sunday School Days of felt boards and Bible Stories? This felt VIPKid Classroom background brings me right back. I like to use Velcro to put my External Rewards on it. The felt allows me to have a place to put various pictures up there for the kids to see. I can easily print pictures of bugs, monsters, stars, etc. and stick Velcro to the backs and have a new reward system over night! 

    

          This background has gone through so much and has served me well! AND it still looks just as good as the day I made it! It's cheap, simple to create, versatile and I can take it anywhere!
